What is the personality/philosophy of Healthwinds?
Kailee: Long before it became trendy, Healthwinds was a pioneer in the spa/health and wellness industry in Canada. Right from the start we sought referrals from physicians willing to introduce their patients to treatments, services and programs which were complementary to traditional health care.
Having learned that people only embrace this concept as part of their lifestyle if the experience is effective and enjoyable, we created a serene, sophisticated retreat, with only highly trained and caring professionals, quality products and programs.
For more than 15 years men and women alike have relied on Healthwinds' commitment to provide high quality programs, treatments and services to help them reach and maintain their health and wellness goals.
What are the product lines you use at the spa?
Kailee: We use many different products choosing the best from various lines. For skin care we carry Éminence Organic (certified organic line from Hungary), Guinot (French line) and Cellcosmet (swiss line – excellent for anti-aging).
For the body we use all kinds of body scrubs such as Éminence Organic sugar scrubs and Apricot Tea tree (all natural). For the wraps we use Canadian Marine Glacial Clay, French Algae and Canadian Black Moor Mud. For hydrotherapy we use Kneipp and Dresdner herbal bath salts and oils from Germany, Black Moor mud from Canada and Algae from France’s Brittany coast.
What are your most popular services or packages?
Kailee: Our two favourite specialty treatments are the two hour Hydrotherapy bath treatment or the Black Moor Mud wrap. Both these treatments start with a full body scrub using the organic sugar scrubs or the apricot kernel teatree polish.
Then for the Hydrotherapy specialty the client receives a treatment in our 120 water jet hydrotherapy bathtub from Germany. The massage therapist administers a massage using a high pressure water wand and salts, mud or herbal oils are added to the water to enhance the effect of the treatment.
If the client chooses the Body Wrap instead of the Hydrotherapy Bath treatment they receive an application of warmed Black Moor Mud and are then wrapped snugly in heated blankets for 20 minutes while receiving a head and face massage.
Once unwrapped the client steps into a powerful 6-jet shower which cleanses the body of mud and toxins eliminated through sweat as well as massages the remnants of tension from the body.
Both the Hydrotherapy and the Body Wrap treatments are finished with a one hour Aromatherapy massage treatment. Most clients float out of the spa after these treatments as they are relaxing and energizing.
What other activities are available?
Kailee: Healthwinds has a complementary steam room in both the women’s and men’s locker rooms which many clients use before or after their treatments.
Our consulting physician offers programs in Mindfullness a form of meditation used to relax and de-stress, as well as wellness counselling.
Spa Cuisine
Kailee: Our juice bar provides fresh health drinks, homemade “chock full of good stuff” cookies and lots of interesting mixes of Davids Teas, iced and hot. Delicious fresh salads, sandwiches, light fare and soups (in cooler weather) are available as well.
