What is the personality/philosophy of the Lakeway Spa Resort?

Rod: "To me it is the individuality and creativity of our staff. In my past experience, I have had spa menus that were very extensive, and ours by design is very simple. Our staff is truly gifted, while they are very technical, it's their personality and genuine sincere care about the health and wellness of our guest that really shapes the personality of our spa. For example, Lisa Henderson, one of our massage therapists, was just recently named Best in Austin. She's been instrumental in helping create some of our unique offerings and services. In my twelve plus years in the industry, I am just blown away almost every day by the staff I have...it's the best ever."

Michael: "I have been around the country in different places and I really appreciate what Rod is trying to do to hire the right people. Rod has truly had a philosophy of hiring people with creativity, passion, and drive to want to help people be healthy and feel wellness when they are in the spa experience."

What are the product lines you use at the spa?

Rod: "For our facials we use Pevonia and we also have a privately branded facial line. In addition, we will bring in seasonal lines. For our Hair we use Redken and for our make up we use Jane Iredale."

What is your most popular service or package?

Rod: "Our signature massage and signature facials are the most popular services that we offer. They really stand out with our guests."

Customized Depth Massage

"Our signature massage is a customized depth massage. Other people may call it a deep massage or sports massage. We use the term customized depth to reflect that the service providers will actually customize it to the preferences of the guest. Some times with a deep massage, the therapist can go into it thinking this is what they need - this is what the guest wants. Decisions are made without truly checking in and having confirmed what the guest really needs or having the guest communicate that and responding to the guest's preferences."

Galpals Package

Zarina: "We also have some highly unique and interesting services and packages that we put together. The Galpals package includes manicure, pedicure, and signature massage for a pair of two. It also comes with an overnight guest room and fun tidbits to help guests experience the rest of the property."

Winter Package

"For Winter we put together a winter warmth aromatherapy massage it is really ginger, jojoba, and apricot essential oils all blending together to create an interesting spiced scent. They top it off, after applying the oils, by laying heated towels on top of the skin and wrapping you somewhat cocoon-like. Next, they massage your feet and calves while the oils penetrate the skin from the heat. Then they go back and massage the back again. It's amazing!"

Mother's Day Package

Rod: "Last year we offered a couples room for the week before Mother's Day for a mother and daughter duo. They could get their facials side by side in the same room. And then they could move over to the nail area and receive a manicure and pedicure together as well."

Valentines Day Package

"Last valentines we put together (in our couples room) a white chocolate soufflé wrap followed by the signature massage. We used red sheets on the tables and filled the room with roses.

"We continue offer seasonal unique service that will compliment what we already do on our menu extremely well."

Zarina: "The fun thing is, while we promote the seasonal specialties during the season, the are technically available throughout the year. But it's kind of local or "in-the-know" menu. So if you don't know to ask for them you will not know they are available."

What other activities are available at the resort?

Rod: "In 2009, we are going to offer yoga classes as well. Directly across the hall from the spa is our fitness center. Fully equipped with free weights with and full line cardiovascular equipment. Five miles away there is a shopping galleria. Lakeway is also close to Austin ( about 20 minutes away)."

Zarina: "Lakeway is interestingly on the cusp of Texas Hill country. So we are in the perfect spot to take advantage of both the greenery and nature of the outdoor activities of Texas Hill country and yet close to the fun active environment of downtown Austin with the live music and great restaurants. Being on the lake we have a ton of water sports from jet skiing, fishing, to sailing. Even taking the boat out and having lunch out on the lake is an incredible and unique experience - it is so much fun being out there on the water."

Michael: "I moved out here from California over a year ago. There are more activities here in Austin than there are in most parts of California that we lived in. It is a real active community. You know that Lance Armstrong resides here and trains here. I think it's part of that culture of outdoorsman-ship and activities. When you get here there is so much to do. It is a true outdoorsman paradise and sportsman destination."

Hotel Cuisine

Executive Chef Gerard Canales and his culinary team draw on ingredients from Asian and island cultures and blend them with classical techniques.

Zarina: "Our Chef has created a light but still filling spa menu. It includes things like Texas grapefruit and avocado presentation. The menu also includes smoke salmon crepes and curry chicken salad sandwiches. Calorie points are listed on the menu as well as a break down of what is inside the meal."

Michael: "There are many days spas out in the Austin area and around the country that offer great services and great products. But to go to a full service resort and spa is far above the better experience. Prices are just a little bit more when you go to a resort destination versus a day spa on a strip mall but you get so much more. Here at Lakeway you get a full fitness center, a full service pool with different themes and bar for relaxation, the guest rooms overlook 180 degree view of Lake Travis. When ever I walk a guest from the lobby to the spa, I try to remind them to spend an extra half hour sitting on the patio over looking the water-it will really make your day. A strip mall cannot provide that!"
