What is aromatherapy and how is it beneficial?

Aromatherapy is the controlled use of nature's essential oils to maintain and promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Essential oils are non-oily volatile substances that occur naturally in a wild range of plants all over the world.

Describe the work that you do

After trying for 4 years to get pregnant, I discovered the therapeutic powers of essential oils that help to balance your hormonal system, detox your body and provide a general sense of well being for your mind, your body and your heart. The result was that after a month of applying a blend of essential oils I got pregnant and I continued to use essential oils during my pregnancy, the birth of my son and throughout his 12 years of life. The result is a healthy child who has never needed antibiotics because he has never had any major infections. This experience has been shared with many audiences on TV and radio as well as in seminars and workshops in North and South America.

Currently, I have formulated Aromandina, my own line of highly therapeutic, sustainable aromatherapy products that is sold only through health professionals and spas. Aromandina is a well-developed line of essential oil products that includes Seven Solution Sets. Within these Solution Sets are products which carry essential oil blends that are formulated specifically, scientifically and through years of hands-on experience to assist with the needs and challenges that are affecting our daily lives.

How can aromatherapy be used to help with weight maintenance? Fitness? Stress relief? Skincare?

Weight Maintenance and Fitness: Surely one of the most challenging issues of our time is that of weight loss. Essential oils accelerate the weight loss process by eliminating toxins and toning up the body so that you see faster and better results. At the emotional level, the calming properties of essential oils can help shift appetite and cravings, thoughts can come into balance, and the emotions will be clarified and supported. Essential oils that help with the detoxing process: Fennel, Rosemary, Grapefruit, and Orange. For appetite control, it is not the stomach that lets you know that you are full but your hypothalamus. I formulated a blend of fennel, spearmint and grapefruit that induces the hypothalamus to send a message to the stomach that you are no longer hungry and also triggers positive reactions in the brain.

Stress Relief: Stress manifests in many ways like insomnia, irritability, frustration and mood swings. My favorite calming oils are Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Mandarin and Palo Santo. Palo Santo, or “Holy Wood,” is a tree which is native to my country, Ecuador. It is said that the true value of this tree comes after its life, of up to 90 years because, the tree does not release its essence, or essential oil, until it has laid on the ground for 4-10 years after having died of natural causes. At this point the tree gives freely of its essential essences. Palo Santo invokes a feeling of sacredness as in entering a temple; quiets the mind from mundane thoughts; and has a purifying effect on the mind.

Skin Care: Key to a young looking skin is cellular regeneration. Essential oils provide a way of doing this because of their nutrients and proteins that help to encourage the regeneration of new cells. Essential oils stimulate circulation, which in turn oxygenate the blood and energize the cells. Some very helpful essential oils for skin care are: Frankincense, fennel, neroli, clary sage, geranium, lavender. They should always be mixed in a carrier oil. I highly recommend a combination of golden jojoba oil with fractionated coconut oil and tamanu oil.

How to find aromatherapy products?

I'm not a fan of health food store essential oils. I'm not a fan of multi-level marketing essential oil products either, because although they may be a good quality, I personally find them overpriced. Your oils should be pesticide free, the aromatherapy products should not have synthetic preservatives and you should know the credentials of the person behind the products.
