What touched your life that inspired you to focus on fitness?

Although I had been in sport all my life, my inspiration largely came while at university when studying for my final exams. I noticed several benefits of exercising - I felt really energized coupled with an increased ability to think clearly and for longer periods of intense concentration. I've wanted others to feel equally invigorated with this mind/body connection.

What is your philosophy around fitness?

Fitness is not solely a physical discipline but also mentally and emotionally governed - a 3-step lifestyle discipline.

It is now widely accepted that how we feel and our mental health all have a bearing on our body's ability to heal and grow, so we should not seek to deal with ailments and disorders without treating our bodies in a holistic way.

I would like everyone to be involved in some type of life-long personalized movement programme that could be adjusted in relationship to their health profile because exercise is one of our most basic healing tools.

What do you believe is the reason why we don't exercise as regularly as we should?

In my experience this has largely been due to negative lifestyle patterns - habits like going out drinking, over-working which in turn causes high levels of stress and exhaustion which makes exercise impossible, or eating a poor diet.

By committing to a permanent change of lifestyle, I've often found that my clients have been able to fit in regular daily exercise which is part of a total health package.

What are some basic exercise tips that we should be incorporating daily?

We should all seek to perform some type of deep breathing technique, stretching, and cardiovascular activity.

For someone reading this today and deciding to make a change, where do you recommend starting?
